Severus found his bonded absently tracing an Order of Merlin on the wall.
"It's not good to dwell on the past, Harry."
"I know, but it's hard not to when these medals glint at me everyday."
"It took almost two decades to move beyond my past; hopefully you can, too, by the time you hand these off to Teddy."
"He should never have had to grow up without them."
"Circumstances being what they were, Remus and Tonks chose to fight for their son's future. So did your parents."
"Yeah, and I still miss them all terribly."
