The full moon shone in muted speckles through the tree branches, many already devoid of leaves as the cold snaps had happened early this year. The wind howled and forced Severus to recast a warming spell upon himself, his black teaching robes doing nothing to block the chill out.
He walked through the forest on his way home, grumbling over the necessity of such nightly jaunts.
He heard a crack not far off. Stopping, he pulled out his wand and waited. All manner of animals lived here, some nocturnal predators.
There was a scuffle of leaves to his left, then out pounced a large werewolf, claws outstretched and mouth open to reveal sharp fangs.
With a shout of terror, Severus tried to hex the creature, only to be tackled to the ground.
Expecting pain at any moment, Severus wasn’t prepared for the tongue licking.
He groaned. “Get off me, stupid wolf. Yes, I understand you just want to practice for Halloween. But if anyone urinates upon the floor in fearful reaction, you will be licking up the mess.”
With that he shoved Moony off and got up, continuing on to the Shrieking Shack where the annual Halloween get-together was happening.
