The night was dark in the deep woods, and a chilly breeze sent finger-like tendrils through Hermione's frizzy hair. She shivered, wrapping her robes more tightly around her. Her feet crunched on the rocky road as she walked towards a crossroads up ahead.
She sighed as she stepped out from the forest. The glow of a bonfire across the way illuminated the area and cast its warmth about the land. It gave her hope, hope that she hadn't made a devil's plea for nothing.
The air was still here, save for the cackling dance of flames and soot shimmers that flitted into the sky like little fireflies.
She took out some herbs and threw them into the fire, making a wish as the pungent spice enveloped her. She waited.
Out of the dark walked another figure to stand beside her. Tall, brown, naked, with scars etched across his body, a reminder of what he was.
"It worked," she whispered in awe. As much as she lived in magic, she hadn't believed it was possible.
"Yes, I came back," Remus responded with his shy, timid smile. "Just for you," he said, before cupping her face in his hands and kissing her.
