Tonks felt bad for subjecting her mother to the scorn. Howlers had arrived at their home every day since the Prophet had run that atrocious article, and she could tell that the disparaging remarks they had made against her were getting to her mum, which wasn’t at all fair.

“Mum, I’m goin’ to go home to my flat. No point in both of us listenin’ to these.” She gestured at the ashes left over from the Howlers.

Her mum ignored the mess. “It’s no nevermind to me, though they shouldn’t talk about you like that. The world should be a more open place now with the war over. But I suppose that’s too much to ask.” She looked sad, resigned.

For once Tonks didn’t know what to say.

Then a knock sounded from the front door. On the other side stood Ginny. She was furious and fuming. “I’ve had it! These people need to leave us alone!” She pounded down her fist.

Tonks snorted. “They should, alright, but you can’t stop folks from gossipin’.”

“But we should be able to do something to prevent them from printing it!”

Tonks issued her inside to the parlour. “Well, we could always sue ‘em for libel. We might have kissed and danced, but we didn’t have sex that night.” Pouring some tea, she muttered, “Nor any since.”

Ginny set her tea down without drinking it. “I don’t have money to sue them, and besides the damage has already been done. I want retaliation.”

“Couldn’t your twin brothers help wi’ that?” Tonks’ eyes lit up. “Hang on! I have the solution! We will definitely need to get your brothers in on the action. Do some real prankin’ of those swines and everyone who reads that trash. Whatcha say you to a little fireworkin’ tomorrow on New Year’s Eve?”

Ginny’s anger evaporated and an excited grin spread across her face. “Yeah, I think you’re right. Let’s get started!”

The two stood up and Tonks gave her a quick peck on the cheek before they left to begin their payback. Perhaps it would do the wizarding world some good in the process. Make things more open, as her mother had said.
