It was a particularly crisp morning, the sunshine glinting off the newly fallen snow as students carted off to Hogsmeade, Severus and Lily among them.
"I'm going to need more parchment, Sev. What about you?"
"I warned you the professors would assign longer essays this term. Why didn't you buy accordingly?"
"Sev, you're always over-prepared. I didn't think you were serious!" she laughed.
That was the problem, though; she never took him seriously. His feelings ran deep, but she never saw that. So once again, he buried the hope of capturing her heart and went back to thinking about potions.
